James Wang

James Wang

After serving two terms as a school trustee, James Wang was elected to Burnaby City Council in 2014 and is now serving his third term. He has consistently worked to build a strong, vibrant, and inclusive city.

With his BCA colleagues, James focuses on improving affordability for families and addressing the housing crisis. He supports Burnaby’s leadership in environmental sustainability and housing, including the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 and the development of the 2050 Official Community Plan.

As Chair of the Public Safety Committee, he led the creation of the 2025 Community Safety and Well-Being Plan to help ensure Burnaby remains safe for all. He also chairs the Mayor’s Task Force on Economic Growth and Resilience, advancing business growth and competitiveness.

A recipient of the Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Award, James works closely with local communities, including the Burnaby Hospital Foundation and local food banks, to strengthen connections and build a more livable and affordable Burnaby.
