BURNABY–Burnaby Citizens Association (BCA) City Councillors recently met with Burnaby Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to advocate for continued provincial support and timely delivery of Phase 2 of the Burnaby Hospital redevelopment project.
The meeting brought together local elected representatives committed to ensuring Burnaby residents receive the high-quality healthcare services they need in one of British Columbia’s fastest-growing communities.
BCA Councillors emphasized the importance of Phase 2 in expanding healthcare capacity, improving patient care, and supporting frontline healthcare workers. The redevelopment project is critical to addressing increasing demand for hospital services in Burnaby and the surrounding region.
“Burnaby residents deserve access to modern, accessible, and efficient healthcare facilities,” said Daniel Tetrault, Burnaby City Councillor. “Burnaby will not accept half a hospital. This project is essential to meeting the needs of our growing population and ensuring families can receive care close to home.”
Councillors highlighted the need for continued collaboration between all levels of government to keep the project moving forward on schedule and to ensure the final redevelopment reflects the long-term healthcare needs of the community. They also urged MLAs for an updated and expedited timeline for delivery.
“Burnaby continues to grow rapidly, and our healthcare infrastructure must grow with it,” said Maita Santiago, Burnaby City Councillor. “While we will continue to work collaboratively with our provincial partners to deliver the services our community depends on, we also know that we need to continue advocating for the timely delivery of this critical infrastructure project.”
The BCA heard strong support from the Burnaby MLAs’ and understand they are committed to championing and delivering this project for the region.
The Province of BC recently announced the cancellation of a key contract in the Phase 2 redevelopment of the Burnaby Hospital. Phase 2 of the redevelopment is expected to build on the major improvements already underway through Phase 1, helping modernize healthcare delivery and expand hospital capacity for decades to come.
