Much accomplished, more to do: Burnaby Citizens Association releases its 2026 platform

BURNABY – The Burnaby Citizens Association today released its 2026 election platform, setting out what the BCA team has delivered for Burnaby and what we plan to do next.
The BCA platform is online at burnaby-citizens.ca/platform.
"Much accomplished, more to do," is our platform that is organized around three main commitments: getting the basics right and strengthening the public services people count on, standing up for Burnaby and making life more affordable, and fighting for the world-class public schools Burnaby students deserve.

Our team kept the City debt-free, kept property taxes among the lowest in Metro Vancouver, and maintained the strong public services that the people of Burnaby rely on. We have accomplished a lot, and this platform continues to build upon that work with a bold vision for the future."

Highlights of the platform include:
Keeping taxes low and services strong: maintaining the City's record of zero debt and property taxes among the lowest in Metro Vancouver while providing the public services the people of Burnaby rely on.
Getting Burnaby Hospital back on track: fighting for Phase 2 and continuing to press the province to re-commit to the project.
Building homes people can afford: starting construction on at least 1,000 new homes through the Burnaby Housing Authority by 2030.
Supporting small business and local jobs: streamlining permitting and licensing, delivering on the 17 recommendations of the Mayor's Task Force on Economic Growth and Resilience, and bringing shops, cafés, and restaurants to street level.
A park within walking distance of every home: more park space, growing the tree canopy, and adding washrooms, water fountains, benches, and sports courts to existing parks.
Fighting for Burnaby's schools: pressing the Ministry to build for projected enrolment, including new schools at Brentwood West, Bainbridge Village, and Brentwood East and replacements for Cameron and Maywood, growing the school meals program and keeping the district's anti-bullying policy strong.

The BCA is the only team running a full slate for both City Council and the Board of Education. The platform sets out how one team at both tables delivers for Burnaby families.
Quick Facts:
The BCA is running 15 candidates in 2026: eight for Burnaby City Council and seven for the Burnaby Board of Education. That is the only full slate running for Burnaby City Council.
General voting day for the municipal election is Saturday, October 17, 2026. Advance voting is October 3, 7, and 10.
