Maita Santiago

Maita Santiago lives in the Metrotown area with her husband and two teenagers and has proudly called Burnaby home for almost twenty years.

During her first term on city council, Maita works to address key issues residents face including the need for more affordable housing, better accessibility, stronger community connections, improved climate action, and building a safer and more inclusive Burnaby. She has also advanced more equitable approaches to city planning and decision-making to ensure that the needs of seniors, youth, women, newcomers, and working families are better reflected in how programs, services, and public spaces are designed and delivered.

Maita graduated from Simon Fraser University and has decades of experience in community organizing and advocacy to all levels of government. Before being elected to City Council, she worked as a front-line service provider and operated a family daycare. She was also a Citizen Representative on Burnaby’s Social Issues Committee which gave her the added experience of knowing the positive impact that good municipal policies can have on local residents and families.

Maita is running for re-election to continue this work because while much has been accomplished - there is still more to do.
